Background
There is increasing need for production plants to control chips when processing metal parts because it affects processing efficiency and the quality of parts. Inappropriate chip control can cause problems such as a suspension of machine operation and damage to the processed parts. Therefore, tools, including the inserts, need to incorporate the superior chipbreakers (the ditch on the surface of the inserts) to discharge chips during processing in a predetermined manner.
Kyocera is releasing 72 new chipbreakers as two models on April 25. They are suitable for the lathing operations of auto parts, including shafts and gears that are complex to process and for which it is difficult to control the chips. They contribute to improving processing stability in the field and ensuring the quality of the parts.
Features of the Two New Chipbreakers
The new design offers stable processing
The newly designed surface of the chipbreakers helps to ensure that the chips produced during cutting are maintained at the most appropriate length. In this way, problems during processing are minimized, such as the suspension of machine operation due to the adherence of chips of the wrong length, damage to products, and accidental cracks in the inserts. The result is greater stability in processing.
The CJ Chipbreaker
CJ chipbreaker is designed to efficiently discharge chips having the most appropriate length, especially when performing high feed-rate cutting and low grain-depth cutting. This product reduces cutting resistance by approximately 20% compared to that of conventional products, and restrains chattering to provide greater stability in cutting. It also improves processing stability when copying and undercutting, and when pull-up facing, such as when machining shafts.
The VF Chipbreaker (Positive type)
The new design of the rake face and the cutters increases efficiency in curling the chips and discharging them at the appropriate length. This product substantially reduces damage to products caused by chips. The inserts are designed to hold the tip at an angle of 35 degrees. This product is mainly used in plants that process the components of auto engine. It provides stability in V-shaped grooving, undercutting, and spherical processing where it is difficult to control the chips. Thanks to the introduction of the positive insert design that features a cutter with a sharp edge, the product is suitable for copying internal diameters and the edges.
A wide range of items responds to various processing techniques
A wide range of chipbreakers is in offer, totaling 72 types, including 24 items for the CJ chipbreaker and 48 items for the VF chipbreaker. These products respond to the wide range of processing techniques employed in the field.
